New Hobbies

Sitting all the time, as I do, is terrible for your body; thus, I decided an active hobby or two would be beneficial. I chose archery and golf.


After research, I determined the following:

  • Archery is expensive.
  • It is vital to learn correct form.
  • You must know your draw length and buy a bow accordingly.
  • Do not start with a higher draw weight than you can handle. 30#-35# is generally considered a safe starting draw weight.
  • If choosing a recurve (traditional) bow, as I did, a take-down style bow allows you to upgrade the limbs for a higher draw weight.

I purchased almost everything at I chose the Samick Journey 64″ take-down bow. I chose which local archery shop I want to use β€” it’s smaller and further from my home, but it’s less focused on hunting and the staff more readily recognized my presence.


I purchased a starter set of clubs from a guy on Craigslist. Said guy knows my grandfather; that isn’t strange at all. Since I have a couple friends who play golf, I hope that this will make for a good group sport.

It’ll be interesting to see how these turn out, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and adding some active hobbies to my life.
