You don’t know what the other person is thinking. They missed the mark here. This is how I feel before answering, not during a call. And I prefer methods of communication where I don’t even get tone of voice, let alone physical indications of meaning.
You’re under time pressure. I prefer the opportunity writing provides for honing my thoughts. Plus, calls generally carry a sense of urgency I don’t appreciate unless it’s truly urgent.
You feel like you’re being judged. No. I feel like I’m being bothered.
You just don’t do it all that often. Gladly.
Overcome it. Frankly, my goal is not to overcome any annoyance or anxiety with phone calls, but to reduce or eliminate the need for them. Plus, email and messaging are nice for having a record of the conversation.
