The EM drive is highly controversial because it appears to defy the currently known and accepted laws of physics. But NASA has published a peer-reviewed paper showing this drive produces thrust without propellant. NASA Eagleworks researchers hypothesized this may have to do with pilot-wave theory – an also-controversial version of quantum physics that would change our understanding of much of the universe. A version of the EM drive may be tested in space by March 2017. It’s thought the drive may make the trip to Mars only 70 days long.
