Do you ever feel like your writing is a lot more formal than the way you talk? I’ve been feeling like that a lot lately. To some degree I should expect it, since most of my writing practice was essays in school. But in the wrong place, that kind of formality can be mistaken for disinterest.
When I take time to write something here, that alone means I care. When I write a response, I review it for two things: 1) tone, and 2) if I’m using the fewest words possible while effectively conveying an idea. I want people to respond well to anything I write, and I want my messages to take as little of their time as possible. I hate when key information is buried.
I may not be the best writer in the world, but good communication is something I care about deeply. So, I strive to be clear, concise, and kind in my daily writing. And I’m going to try to be more personable here, too.
