Jake Knapp has been writing about how he removed “infinity” from his iPhone and regained his ability to concentrate. He disabled Safari, removed “infinity” apps like Instagram and Twitter, turned off push in Mail, and more. His latest article outlines how one can try this, even if for just a day.

What I Removed

I deleted Tweetbot and Instagram, and changed Mail settings to only retrieve emails while I am using the app (manual instead of push). I moved Safari, the App Store, 1Password, and Mail off of the home screen. While Apple Maps remains on the home screen, Google Maps is on Page 2 as back-up.

Apps I Kept (That Need Explaining)

Facebook Pages Manager. I assist in managing my organization’s Facebook Page, and it is far easier to post photos to our Page this way.

Yahoo News Digest. It only updates two times per day. I find this app to be a great way to remain up-to-date without continually feeling an urge to check the news.
